In contrast to other styles of yoga, Yin Yoga involves maintaining a virtually still (static) pose (asana) for a duration of at least 1.5 to up to 5 minutes. Consequently, there is minimal movement during the pose, facilitating a profound stretch of the connective tissue (fascia). Throughout the static posture, the objective is to relax the muscles to the utmost extent, with the slowing of your breath assisting in this process. This engenders increased space within the body, fostering greater flexibility as a result. Yin Yoga thus brings about a constructive impact on flexibility.
While Yin Yoga assumes a passive yoga form, this does not negate its intensity. Quite the contrary, prolonging your presence in a pose coupled with resistance necessitates commitment, bravery, and strength, rendering it a formidable undertaking. It constitutes a self-confrontation.
A Yin class is endowed with a meditative quality, encouraging you to seek out the tranquility within yourself and develop a means of managing resistance.
Yin Yoga is individually conducted, delivered through one-on-one sessions or online with Zoom.
